£280, you got a good deal mate, normally you should be looking up round £400.
Why not do it yourself, save yourself a bomb, just need to get the balls to do it, it isn't a very hard job, just involved

I got a new timing belt & tensioner, head gasket, head skimmed, new water pump, one new tyre and a service from Vaux on my old 1.4 sport. £675!! They advise getting all of the above done at the same time, timing belt because it's coming off anyway, so they might as well put a new one on for the sake of what it costs, and water pump because it gets put under a lot of strain when the system boils.

this is true, you need really to do timing belt tensioner and water pump as you've said.
If you do it yourself just make sure you lock the cams otherwise you will need to get it done professionally to repair the damage.
And if the head is warped then you will need to skim but if you shop around you can get this done for £20-£30
