Yeah they're right next to each other. Your timing belt will be behind a cover tho, probably, whereas you will be able to see your alternator belt if you look under the bonnet. Alternator belt also powers your air con, power steering and water pump.

Cheers for the response. I was wondering bcoz I get a squealing noise from one of the belts when I start the car, tho it goes away once the engine is warmed up, just wondering which belt it would be...

Thanks dude. Feel a lot better knowing it aint the timing belt now! Wouldn't want THAT goin snap lol. How much to get alternator belt changed by a mech, inc parts labour and VAT? Or should I do it myself?

wouldnt buy a timing belt of anybody other than an OE belt, at least then if it snaps within the acclaimed mileage you have some comeback

well I just changed my missus' alternator belt for a halfrauds one.
It squeels in the rain and in cold, do you rekcon it would need tightening (although its pretty tight IMO) or do you reckon replace it with an oe one

I didn't mean timing belt, I meant alternator belt. Although in saying that, i dont think i have a genuine cam belt, I got it from autovaux.
