Just bin 2 a local garage to do a fluid test on my coolant system. mechanic confirmed after tested the hea gasket has definately lown cuz the fluid changed colour in a matter of minutes. However he has quoted me on a worst case scenario £600-800 Im thinking f*CK that! sounds like he's tryin 2 rip me off.
N e 1 know how much the head gasket on a corsa 1.4 16V sport usually costs?
BTW if n e 1 here is a mechanic and can fix the head gasket at a reasonable price, u2u me with price and to arrange times etc.
thanx

the head gasket set is about £40. The cambelt kit is about £75 (cheaper if you just get the cambelt on its own). Water pump, i think is about £25 to £40. Having the head skimmed is about £25 - £40. Head bolts are about £15 to £20. Then the oil and antifreeze. Does cost abit. Just rebuilding mine at the moment and it does take time.

u hope the head aint warped pal. Ive recently blown my head gasket and the head is warped. If ur wanting to drive it pal, mechanic told me to take off the water cap. Reduces pressure throughout the engine and stops overheating so bad. Just keeping topping it up now and again.

If I did it the head would be pressure tested and skimmed anyway.

They aren't robbing bastards. They are mechanics who have a job to do. If you can't do it yourself, learn, or stop complaining.

labour thats why they have m3,s and all the other expensive cars paid cash
i got robbed went to a mechanic i needed a water pump for my corsa 1.4 16v sport
£30 from andrew page labour should be average £45 per hour say
its only a hour job so under £100 pounds job done.
but no
he said it was my timing belt bearing so he changed them and the belt - tensioner the lot still made the rattling noise charge me £150 for nothing really because there was no problem
why
because i need a water pump i did not say anything to him because it would of caused delay of getting my car back
then
he turned around to me and said you need a water pump
hello!!!!!
so with and extra £80 on the job the problem was sorted when he changed the water pump
he thought i was thick.
after he had changed the belt and all the other stuff he rang me and told me i need a water pump because it was making a different noise utter bollocks
i said to him just put on a water pump on how much would it cost?
he said it will be the same price as having a timing belt fitted because he would have to take it off anyway so what ever way you look at it he had me by the balls
never been back again

so why complain??? it was your fault you took the car away and paid for the work in the first place. Garages have a job to do and overheads to pay. Most are good reputable places that do a good job but as always, there are bad ones out there.
your problem was nothing to do with the quality of the work but the fact you wanted your car back in a hurry. If you think they were ripping you off why not go elsewhere for the work.
