well acording to mythbusters last night using aluminium foil and coke to scrub with on PROPER chrome it should bring it up well

Hi will 
Don't use anything abrasive like autosol. This will take off the chrome.

Ah, i get you now.
My mate washes them with a sponge and soapy water and then polishes them with Autoglym to keep the crap off.
They still look like new.
