Got in tonight, went to turn my pc on as i do everyday and.....
Nothing, no fans, no lights no nothing.
Girlfriend informs me she used it in the morning, after she had switched it off, she said 5mins later the fans whoosed a couple of times 
Now it wont switch on.
Its plugged in on a gang, which works fine and fuse is ok, i have also changed the fuse in the plug too which is definately working.
PC was new in Jan 2004 its a dell dimension tower.
Any ideas what could of happened?

she didnt flick the mains switch on the back of the case did she? :S just a long shot
if not then it could be a few things, if theres no response at all it can only be the power as if it was something else it would at least start up

i would unplug all power connectors on the motherboard and then reconnect them then try it again.

Cheers for response guys,
The powerlead was disconnected and reconnected = nothing
Call me stupid but what is a psu? Monitor is running same powersupply and works fine

PSU is a power supply unit, in the top of the back of the PC, where the power cable plugs into.
Some have lights on but being a dell i dont think it will..
fiddle with the plug at the back of it see if it makes any sparky / or any noises that sound like there is any juice going through it

Dont open the case at all if its from dell, it voids the warrenty..

he got it in 2004 its probably only got a 1 year warrenty.

Is there a light / LED on the motherboard?
Thy your power (kettle) lead from the monitor to the tower see if it powers up etc.
Wiggle the lead slowly and gently into the power socket on the PSU and listen for an electrical sparking noise.
Answers to the above.....?

fans have started pulsing whilst its still not switching on

sounds like PS dont turn it on it could 'surge' other components. try a new psu
|

Sounds similar to a problem I had, try cleaning the insides of all dust and from the fans etc

Usually the Power supply has just blown. New ones are around £20
Try disconnecting everything from the mainboard except the power and the power switch - this eliminates the possibility of some other component "grounding" the circuit.
If it still doesn't fire up sounds like the board's blown ...

you can still add the warranty now. Call them and say you want an extended warranty, might cost only £60, then in 2-3 days call them and ask for technical support, they will send an engineer (talking from very similar experience) got a new dvdrw drive, new power supply, new motherboard too in less than 2 days
and opening your pc doesn't void the warranty (for dell only)
