Hey,
I spoke with ChrisBoom about this briefly earlier on but I thought Id test everyone with this one.
Ages ago I had a problem whereby when it rained; my speaker in the passenger door would crackle and the sound would come and go from time to time. This was caused by a leake by the wing mirror, this was fixed by a bodge-job illustrated in the diagram below!
To tackle this problem I got some of that weather proofing meterial from Vauxhall and mounted my speaker ON TOP of a layer of this stuff. So Id kindof looked like this:
Sorrt for the shitty diagram but heres the key:
Grey vertical bar = Car door.
Terqoise Line = Plastic weatherproofing
Orange Line = Speaker Wire
Red Line = Path of screws
Blue Line = Original drip (reason for plastic)
So, I fixed this, but now I heard the crackling again after some rain. I took the speaker out of its plastic etc and it was BONE DRY inside.
Could this be down to a wire getting wet further up the door?? I dont see what could be causing this.

Is the leak still there? You dont want any water in the door, it will rot very quickly.
Best bet is too seal the leak, then leave it to dry out, spray a wee bit of WD40 on the connections to drive any moisture out.

I dont know how to seal the leak :S I went NUTS with a mastic gun a while back.
Thing is; the entire back of the speaker is covered... so technically... there shouldnt be any water getting into it anyway! there might be a tiny bit of moisture soaked up in the duct tape I ised to seal everything...
Is duct tape actually "waterproof" ??

Could be consensation or anything getting in about it, water inside your car is a bad thing 
You really will need to fix the leak, as in getting a new seal, it wont matter how much you waterproof the speakers, there will still be problems with them.

Would they cost much? you reakon this would help?

Depends where the water is coming from exactly, but that will be the likely cause. £5 from a breakers.

Actuall last call? I cant believe nobody has had this problem before!?
Would replacing the door rubber seal on the outside help?
