If i overtake someone in say 3rd or 4th and take it to around 5k rpm. Sometimes i end up with a tapping noise which i can hear in the car faintly. Whilst its tapping if you try overtake again the revs wont go past 5.5k and just stops there.
Why on earth is it doing this?
Engines a 1.2 8v, 94k on a 96 p plate.

Happened yesterday on the way to pick my girlfriend up, so i pulled over and topped the oil up slightly and it went. I recently have an oil change including filter, could it be that it just needed topping up slightly?

if your car was a bit low on oil then yes this could cause the noise, also if you use the wrong grade oil this will happen like if you use 5w30 then you will tap a lot if you use 10w40 then it will be good, mine makes a annoying pinking/taping noise which i cant get rid of untill i remap the bleedin pcm never mind tho, your car should be ok, just check the oil every week

Checked oil as is up to the max, also think the oil is 15w30? Whats a pcm?
