Hi guys...

My car: Corsa Sport 1999 1.6 16v.

Engine mods... powerflow centre section with reduced silcencer and Magnex 5x3" oval back box. K&N panel filter.

When I first got my car it was bog standard and seemed to pull well and seem pretty smooth up to the limiter.

In the quest for more noise and a tad more power, I de-restricted and drilled my airbox and fitted a K&N panel. Sounded good but I always thought it pulled a bit better at the top of the revs before when it was standard, as afterwards you could feel the power tail off a bit @ 5700ish when the engine note changes and becomes quite cammy once I'd drilled/derestricted...

Anyway I recently got a standard airbox to see if I can save some fuel money as I don't really gun about much but am only getting 30mpg round town at best. However, no holes and no derestriction, just my K&N panel filter, it feels a lot torquier and pulls clean at the top of the revs again. I have actually gone off the induction noise so the lack of it is a bonus too.

I'm just a bit confused as I'd expect it to feel a bit more held back with a boggo airbox on???

Anyone else experienced it? Usually you have noise which = placebo effect of more power but I never got it in my case, feels better with std airbox and less noise lol.

just dropped a piperx panel in mine also drilled the airbox at the same time i know what you mean though am thinking of going back to standard airbox with just the piperx in it, altho i do think it gives it slightly more pull throughout the revs, just not at the redline, therefore iv stopped taking it all the way to the redline and changing slightly earlier seems to pull ok.

Feels ok to me still so gonna leave it on...

I can't be arsed with engine mods now, way I see it no matter what I do to a 1.6 (without considering throttle bodies) it'll never be quick and a VTS with a full exhaust will still beat me lol.

I kinda like the fact I've lost the mad induction roar now, it's as if people are wondering what it is with it being debadged cuz it goes just as well if not a bit better towards the redline

if you want to keep the torque keep the trumpet at the top of the airbox in.

just de restrict the pipe inside than bends to 45 degrees.

car finds it easier to pull from low revs.
