Hi guys, my tappets are annoying me, I have a Haynes manual, and help off someone on here [many thanks] but need the car for work until the end of next week, so cant go replacing them or anything yet.
Anyway, I have recently done an oil change and put some Duckhams 10W-40 oil in on recommendation of my dad [manager of a motor factors] which made no difference to the tappet sound, so chucked some Wynns in with the oil, which quietened them a little but can still hear them.
So my question is, can I put two lots of Wynns in with my oil?
And/or is there a better oil for freeing/quietening tappets?
Its a 1998 X14XE Sport by the way.
Thanks for any help.

dont know about the wynns but it did iton my mates tigra which has the same engine when he had it serviced the garage stripped the head down and cleaned the tappets out, they are hydraulic and are a bit of a pain to do, try some engine flush, add it to your oil and run the engine as it is recommended on the tin adn then drain the oil, sorted it out on my 1.4 8v

I put the wynns tappet stuff in my LET but it made no noticable difference. Think the only way to fix it properly would be to fit new tappets.
ED - are there any seals or wearing parts on the tappets? had them out on my 1.4 but never really looked at them because they were quiet anyway

Not quite sure about seals, the tappets on most engines get grit in them and thats what makes them go crazy, like with my friends tigra when he had them done he sed they cleaned a load of grit out and if it still persisted to replace them but they were fine think that is most of the time, you can adjust the tappets but im not sure if you can adjust hydraulic ones, they are easy as fook to adjust on overhead valve engines all you need is a spanner and a feeler guage
