have had my car back a week now (new c16xe engine fitted 2nd hand)
and the tappets are making abit of a noise.
the vaux mechanic who fitted the engine said they would quieten down after a few miles, they went quite for abit then started making a noise again.
would they make a noise if the engine was removed then refitted?

What is the oil level like?
I have a c16xe in my sport and the tappets sound terrible sometimes
Low oil makes them louder

could try doing a oil change and/or hydraulic valve lifter treatment halfords sell it that could help.
lifters are just under the cams

yes, hyrdo lifters are tappets.
Take your rocket cover off and you can see them sat under the camshaft lobes. They will look like metal discs.

I think you can get a new set for £60+ off ebay! I'm not sure what work is involved fitting them though.

if tappets are worn it is poss that the cams r 2, changing wise need to get timing belt off and take rockercover off then the cams the lifters, then vis versa.

What oil are you using? You could try slightly thicker oil such as 15w 40! thats if you havnt already got some in.
I done an oil change yesterday and it did help slightly but i used 10w 40 GM oil semi synthetic. I think i will empty that and get some 15w 40 to see how that goes. My engine is on the way out so its not worth spending mega bucks on it at the moment lol

not that bad, the head doesn't need to come off to change tappets.
Dave A advised me not to get the ebay tappets mind.

not sure what oil is in it but it feels (to touch) abit gritty, i want to use the best oil (recomended by vauxhall) as it doesnt use a drop

stick some strong magnets to your sump bolt
any bits of swarf will then stick to it and not get pumped round the engine
