rite my mate was messing around with with the chip in my key and broke it so he got me anther ecu key etc but only to find out my car now tops out at 5 grand any ideas :S

Get it plugged in at vaux. Maybe in limp mode so may need resetting?? Could be wrong.

Limp mode is around 3k iirc
My old tigra went into limp mode every time i bounced off the limiter in the wet being silly

You haven't told us what car or engine it is. If it is a diesel then it is spot on!

its a corsa with a x16xe lump in it lol i was tempted but the new ecu sorted out my starting problem so its sorta good in a way now it starts frist time but not good that it wont now go over 90
|

are the sockets on the ecu the same colour as the plugs on the wires going into it

I bet its an x14xe ECU.
My mates had the same problem as yours after getting a new ECU, his was an x16xe too. Hitting the limiter at 5k.
And that was fitted by Vauxhall

using a 1.4 ecu makes no difference im using one on my 1.6 and the rev limiter is normal and the speed is that of a standard 1.6
