Asking on behalf of a mate who I'm trying to help fit a stereo for.
Was meant to be a 5 minute job as they usually are
Removed a Alpine 4x60w headunit that required a direct feed to the battery, also ran off the standard ISO blocks etc.
Fitted a 'normal' Alpine headunit which will run just off the normal ISO connections - worked fine in my C. Plug it all into the B and it's dead - won't turn on. Tried in vain switching the red and yellow wires, but that's only for the radio memory anyway.
Any ideas? Only wire cut on ISO blocks is the red & grey one to get the date to show. Haven't checked voltages through ISO block as no access to voltmeter atm - guessing just stick it in red & yellow wire holes when I can get hold of one.
Cheers,
Rich

get a multimeter on the yellow wire and with the ignition on - the red wire to check continuity. make sure the power wires on the iso loom line up with the factory loom

Cheers Jake. Just done that. The results:
(Taken from the car's ISO block using a test lamp as couldn't find a multimeter)
Red Wire - test light works fine
Yellow Wire - dead
Therefore it's not getting any power from the ignition for some reason (well at least not the signal to get power) my bodge solution will be to run a wire from the 12v socket to the headunit ISO connector.
Unless there's a reason for that not working? Checked all the 10A fuses and they're fine...

try it on all the factory wires with the ignition off. by chance it could be that the permanent live is a different colour so will need swapping over. its sounds abit weird that theres no power at the yellow wire if all fuses are ok

Providing it's a 10A fuse then yeh they're all fine which is leaving me confused. Am thinking of bodging it if not and running it off the 12v socket for the ignition wire

if the yellow wire hasnt got any voltage then it cant be the perm live. i would check the 15amp fuses aswell and also check the other wires with the ignition off to see if one of them has got perm 12v's

Will check the fuses again in a bit.
Took test light readings from where the headunit ISO block would fit into the car ISO connections, so on the bottom ISO block; top left of it (Red) lights up with ignition on or off, 2nd in from right on bottom (yellow) doesn't do anything with ignition on or off.
Difficult to see behind dash properly, but looks like both of them have red wires going into them from the car loom
