Should never be bearing material in your oil,
The type of bearing they are do not run in, your crank should run on a film of oil not the bearing material.

It looks like I am
Getting bottom End rebuilt. Before I do this, is it worth chucking new sump on and trying to start it? Am
I likely to make anything worse?

If you run it with the bottom shells on the way out you run the risk of scoring your crank if you havent already

If its got that mess in sump, I'd hate to think what the oil pump, pickup and the rest of the engine is like.

Tbh, you may have killed your cam shaft bearings also, wanna get those checked as well, though you'll have the head off when it's being rebuilt.
Don't bother running it, you could scrap your crank, or a rod, or even put a rod through the block.

definately not worth sticking a sump on and trying it. if its packed up and theres that mess made already, firing it up again after is obviously gonna make things worse
