Need a new outer cv gaiter on the o/s (driver side) of my corsa b.
Cant figure out how to do it, can anyone help? Do i need special tools? Or what section is it in the haynes book? Cheers

Help please. The only way I can see it being possible is if I were to undo all the swivel hub but surely I'd need a spring compressor for front shock which I don't currently have?

take the shaft out, no you dont need a spring compressor

ok thanks, how do I take the driveshaft out though? Undo retaining pin and nut, then what? Cheers

undo the castle nut on the end of the shaft,
split the ball joint,
pull the hub over the shaft.
pull the shaft until it dislodges from the gearbox.
remove the cv joint from the shaft (circlips hold it on)
fit new gaiter

thank you. I'll give it my best tomo. How do you "relodge" the driveshaftvwgen refitting? Does it simply pop in?

Got driveshaft off. Cant see a circlip at all. Any help? Looked at Haynes etc. Sprayed the Cv joint with lots of wd40 to clear the grease away and I still cant see a circlip...

shaft in a vice. Hit the outer rim of the joint with a hammer, hard!

clean more of the grease out from around the splined part of the shaft.
It's a thin black circlip, use a thin flat blade screwdriver to pop it off then tap the cv off the splines.

you might smash the bearings out of the cv. Don't use a hammer lol.

No, there's 2 types of joint, some are held with a circlip where the splines are, easy to see when you clean the grease. Other type has a spring clip at the other end of the splines and just needs a good smash to pop the joint over it! Refitting you have to make sure the clip stays within it's groove or when you hit the joint back on it'll smash the clip.

I just done an inner on my Vectra and was the same set-up as the above. I done it without a vice. Just hold the shaft upright and make sure the cv joint is also straight. If its at an angle it puts strain on the circlip and makes it harder to release it. Just smack it with a hammer till you see it sliding off. Hit the bits closest to the shaft. Don't worry, you won't damage them but keep an aye on it moving and once its free, be careful not to hit the splines on the shaft. Once its free from the circlip it just tap it off.

thank you. Got it off in 5 mins.
I held the driveshaft still with the steel wheel, using the hole in the middle. Then just whacked it off, cheers everyone

Sorry, yeah a vice isn't needed that much. I tend to do these on the car. Glad it's off for you!
Just be careful putting back on, get someone to watch the circlip and tease it in with a screwdriver while you tap the joint on gently!

I just clicked it back on lol. Glad its done now n if I need to do it again ill know what im doing cheers.
I also didnt undo the bottom ball joint as I couldnt be arsed buying another if I broke it. So I took it off where it meets the ARB
