When i plug my RCA leads from the headunit into the amp, nothing happens. If i do it the other way though and plug the rear speaker into the amp, the sub works, y wont my RCAs work?

What headunit is it? On some units you need to actually turn on the preout.
Other possiblities are that the preout itself is damaged or as sfcp says the RCA's could be damaged, this may not be visable but they could well be.

The RCAs are new so its not that, its an oldish pioneer headunit

Yeh check the Whole cable of the RCA cud be 1 strand of the wire gone.
Or as Austin says check the Pre out on yer headunit anit Fucked.
