I want to get an alarm for my car BUT don't need anything super fantastic as my car isn't worth stealing that much.

I've been told that if I'm spending money on an alarm it should be at least a Thatcham Cat 1, so I save money on insurance etc. The idea of getting the alarm is to ward of pesky kids and other people trying to do things, especially as I plan on modding it a bit more.

Looking on CarAudioSecurity.com their cheapest Cat 1 alarm is the Cobra A7928 at £179.99! Is this alarm actually any good for the price, or is it worth spending more?

If not, what is the best alarm for a say, £250 budget that is Cat 1?

Clifford and Toad alarms, at Cat 1 standard, seem pretty expensive.

Any help etc would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

i got my clifford E650 which i belive is thatcham approved and cat 1 for 380, then i added remote start, blue fashy thing and a few other bits and it soon doubled the price but i only use it as a standard alarm and it has never played up once

i used a place in welyn garden city, very good service and aftersale help + when you see them fitting audio to a ferrari you kind of think it cant really go wrong on a corsa

Won't be any insurance reduction for having one, after I contacted Zurich - might go into the broker and see what they say.

Is it pointless getting just a standard alarm and not Thatcham Cat 1?

And would people say it's pointless getting an alarm unless it's Cat 1? i.e. are non Cat 1's easily over-rideable?

What does a Cat 1 alarm give you over a standard alarm?

you can get a toad for about 100quid. They go for around 200-215 fitted on eBay if you're within 60miles from them for example. Have a look

Which I'm not

There is one in Canvey Island offering the same alarm, fitted, for the same price. I'm seeing what kind of deal he can do me to stop me going to Brum.

Hmmm I don't see why not. Try ringing them, you could have the alarm delivered, then get them to come fit it. Just in case they don't turn up come Sept, you still have it.
