I've taken off my PVD BFO and refitted a modified K&N cone instead.

I bought some black plastic pipe from B&Q which was meant for fitting a bathroom extractor fan through a wall. I made an alluminium end plate for it and attatched it to the k&n. So basically I have the K&N shielded all round and this tube it sits in hovers over the wheel arch.

Drove with it this morning and basically I have loads more torque at lower rpm. The upper revs seem just as good as the BFO as well, but not quite as loud.

I'm say it was a half way house between a K&N and a viper kit.

Will post a photo later.

The plastic pipe cost a tenner and the alluminium cost about £3.

The trickiest it gets is shaping the alluminium.

Sound wise it sounds like a K&N but maybe a little deeper because its enclosed.

If people are interested i'll put a tutorial up for it.

sound mate
go for it, i dont have the cash to splash out on a viper, but if i can make one that does something similar thats good enough for me
would be interesting to know how it compares to a viper though

edit: anyone know where i can get a K&N? i saw somewhere a little while ago and was gonna buy one, but i forgotten where

I think the BFO is the best induction kit. If it was doable i would have used it as the basis for my idea, but there isn't enough room under the bonnet because it is so big.

The K&N leaves plenty of room to surround it.

The BFO was much better than the K&N as standard BUT
The K&N enclosed all round is better than the BFO!

I'm trying to decide whether i should seal the other end off and then attach ducting directly to the side ofthe plastic tube.

That is cool !

So if u seal up the other end, and have cold air feeds going directly into it , like you say above, would that be as good as a Green twister ?

u also wanna make it so the pipe is reflective, as at the moment itll absorb a bit of heat, wrap some foil round it or sumink! will look shiney then too! it may not make a diff but when ur sat in traffic it may do!

My car actually did stall at the lights, i forgot to put half throttle on to pull away!

Now i can just push it lightly and it has enought torque to pull away

I've very nearly finished the setup now!

I fitted an end cap to the plastic shield and sealed all the joints with silicone sealant.

I then cut a hole in the sde and attatched my cold air duct flush with it and used 4 cable ties to fix it.

I plan to seal theis pipe
when i think of the best way.

I am convinced the torque is even better, its really controllable at only just above idle... its very hard to stall it.

I can get it to 60mph in 3rd gear

Also tried going slow in 5th gear and it will happily do 30mph on the flat.

It's allot quieter than the BFOi took off but now it;s sealed it seems to have had the effect ofmaking my back box louder!
