You would have to do both sides at the smae time to do that.
I never slacken the bleed nipple off.
Just do one side, pump pads out, do the other side!
no you wouldnt if you pushed the piston in with the nipple done up and the cap on the resevoir the pressure has nowhere to go.

Who mentioned the cap? besides the cap has a hole in it
And in the last 11 years i have never slackened a bleed nipple to change brake pads. Would be like draining the oil out to measure it to see if it needed topping up!

Just checked 2nite and found out the caliper we were trying to fit last week on the d/s had the bleed nipple at the bottom...do u think this would be causing all the problems? cheers

just wondering sureley you cant have just one nipple at the bottom and the other side at the top, wouldnt that mean you have 2 same sided calipers ?

You either know very few mechanics or work in a main dealership!

oh well he shouldnt try and tell me i am wrong we both have our own way of doing things all i said in my last post was all the mechanics i know always lossen the bleed nipples cus everyone knows vauxhalls are prone to turning the seals in the master cylinder.

Did i ever say you were wrong theres nothing wrong with doing it just pointless.
You didn't answer wether you are in a main dealers so i assume yes.
Yes i work in a "backstreet garage" the fact it bodges insults me slightly because i own it but not much

i have worked in both main dealer and backstreet garages myself.and i know a lot of mechanics.i always do it because they can turn the seals and i have seen them do it so whats the point in taking the risk??its just the way i do it and its not as if you loose a lot of fluid anyway.

there is in my opinion a greater risk in snapping the bleed nipples off!

well that depends how rough you are with them and if you have sprayed them with wd40 first and you can feel if they are going to break or not.

Both of you are right, you either turn the seals in the master cylinder or snap off the bleed nipple so take ur chance either way##

I work in a garage, and was never tought to undo the bleed nipples and no-one else I work with does and we are no backstreet bodger garage either. Time is money and all that so no need to do unecessary stuff.

surely if u loosen the nipples its likely to get air into the system! ive never loosened them to change pads!

not if your pushing the piton in you wont get air in there and its only vauxhalls that are prone to the seals turning as far as i know and it only takes 2 mins.

We only tried to fit the d/s one mate, for other reasons (fuked locking wheel not on p/s meaning we couldnt get it off) and that we didnt know the calipers were sided meant we put the wrong one on lol

i think you should get someone who knows what there doing to do the brakes for you as you clearly dont have the foggiest idea what your doing.
I dont mean to sound harsh but i wouldnt get in the car knowing that you had done the brakes yourself.

not taking sides or having a go but I agree with jonhara.
playing with brakes when you dont know what you are doing is a bad Idea. its not just a case of going in your car but other road users etc...
p.s told you it was on upside down
