Blocking up the egr is easier said that done, as the ecu will throw a fault code if you just unplug it.

No, if you block the vaccum tube that connects to the inlet, miles.
Juha GSI gave me that tip and it works just fine! No fault codes. The engine runs cooler we thrashing it in hot weather, seems to pull a bit better. The downside in the first days seems to be a confused ECU (starts the AIR), but reset the damn thing, or wait a couple of days.
Graham Bell in his book, Modern Engine Tuning gaves the same tip, and by the way it's brilliant stuff, and highly recommended for people who wants to know more about their engines and general tuning

The valves on the C16XE are different so if ya block the EGR and increase the compression ration they still wont be the same the C16XE has bigger valves, this is why they respond better to tuning , where do ya get that Graham Bell book any way matey

From the HAYNES site.
What's the valve diameter of the C16XE ? because the Haynes Corsa manual doesn't say nothing about different valves
I think I will get a short block from Risse Motorsport in German, it has all the rights bits and the fit SBD throlttle bodies and management

I think the valves are the same size, I'll check EPC when I get home.

Thats wrong agentBlue. They all have EGR ports in them, they are just blocked off on the c16xe.

The AIR nozzle is in the exhaust manifold, not exhaust ports

i think alot of u are wrong i have a ecotec gsi and no offence to people with pre ecotec gsi's but that 3bhp is aload of crap cus ive raced loads and anilated them, so either they cant drive or theirs no difference,
' the C16 XE seems to respond to tuning allot better than the later X16 XE' whoever said that ive been told of many of people that its the other way round

The difference are: CR and EGR plus AIR.
It responds better indeed, but if you bin this emissions crap and fit TB and new ECU it's the same.
For a road 1.8 road engine Mantzel quotes 190 bhp for X16XE and 195 bhp for C16XE, so the difference is not much

astra nob, i will be in Australia next month, but if you are in New South Wales, do pop me a visit
Your nochelent attitude stinks astra n, and just because you have "worked on vauxhalls" doesnt make you an expert. Any hardcore corsa fan will tell you that the C16XE is a far better engine than the X16XE. The only advantages the X16XE is going to have is that you can still find low mileage models.

Why do you say such things, when its quite obvious you dont know what you are talking about???"but that 3bhp is aload of crap cus ive raced loads and anilated them" - What the hell does that prove??? They might have been fucked engines, they couldnt be bothered to race, or they couldnt drive properly. FFS

C16 XE Far better than the X16 XE, if you did the same mods to both engines the C16 XE Would gain more power as a percentage, i have read about a corsa GSI with C16 XE engine, it had a mantzel power box, exhaust, filter, manifold and chip and it kicked out 161BHP, if ya put that on a X16 XE i am sure it wouldnt be anywhere near that, a girl owned the car too, still does i think

That would be Donna's GSi, the pink one. the X16XE would probably be at around 145bhp with those mods.

Miles, i doubt very much that AgentBlue is wrong, he knows pretty much everything about this engine.

Ok, so the ports in the exhaust ports are for the air injection system.
However the c16xe heads have these air holes in the exhaust ports, but they are blocked off by the flat flanged exhaust manifold. Unlike the 'X' engines that have the channels in the flange.

Exactly. The X16XE is principly the same, you'll get better fuel economy from it.

What about if I fit a flat flange manifold to X16XE and put the AIR pumping air to the atmosphere?
I presume it will improve something?
