You want to use the coldest plug you can get away with without it fouling up, too hot a heat range plug can cause pre ignition

no sign of that yet, i thought the hotter the better so the gas expands faster?

Not really, a hot plug sends less of its heat into the cylinder head which means the tip stays hotter. Too hot and it will ignite the fuel/air mix on its own without having a spark sent to it....while your piston is still on its way up... causing damage

A colder plug sends more heat to the head meaning it runs cooler so wont ignite the mix by its self but if it stays too cool carbon can build up on it causing it to fail.

Normally you stick with the same heat range the manufacturer recommends unless you have tuned it a fair bit

Its unlikely your losing power but you cant "gain" power by changing the heat grade. What engine is it and what state of tune is it? if the plug is too hot you have to listen out for pre ignition which is an engine killer

Ill have a look when i get home for you mate, working till 10. The NGK BKR6EK's that sand eel has are awesome plugs, but you need them gapped correctly and the right heat range. NGK will say on their website

How do you mean they dont fit exactly? NGK reccomend the BKR6EK for that engine so they should be a straight swap
