Saw a small feature in TV this month on a Nova that had a 1.7TD engine out of a Cavalier fitted.
Is it possible/worthwhile doing it in Corsa B?
Do you reckon it would be fairly quick?
What mounts and driveshafts would be needed?
Is the 1.7TD a good, reliable engine?
How much do you think it could be done for?
(Not doing it to mine BTW, just thought it was quite an interesting conversion )
Thanks!

Are they big block engines? If they are you just need a LET fitting kit and your done...

Not sure. Depends what you call big block. I put up a post a couple of weeks ago about big block and small block and didn't really get a definative answer as to how you work out what is big block and what is small block

If it has a gear box up to F15 then it is small block, if it has an F16 or above then it is a big block

If your going to fit a diesel then what about a Vectra 3.0 V6 CDTi + tuning box. 425NM of torque anyone?

ed, technically that gearbox info aint correct, as mk2 cavs had big block 1600 engines that ran a f13.

If anyone is considering such a transplant, make sure that the car is converted to power steering because my 1.7D has very heavy manual steering.
I had a 1.7 TD Cav and it was fast, reliable (was still good at 150k) and economical - so that engine should be good in a Corsa.
Cheers,
Phil.

the cav tds have only got 80bhp!!
the corsa b's 1700 diesel is about 60bhp so is it really worth going to the hassle to swap the engines??? surely you would be better off spending the money on some tuning goodies for the corsa's engine to bring it up to spec!!!

you can fit 1.7 on your corsa easily depends if the corsa was aready fitted with diesel as mountings on body are different for petrol , also if you are going t use f13 gearbox y need to swap fly wheels from a 15 diesel y can use f17 gearbox and no need to swap of fly wheels also there is a small braket at the back of the engine where the gear change mechanism mount that need to be cut from engine

I think there is some misunderstanding. I already have a 1.7 Diesel in the Van so i was thinking that all i needed to do were to obtain all the relavant parts, Turbo etc.

Why not? i thought that Diesels were strong enough. It's like any form of tuning, engine will never last as long as standard once tuned.
