Anyone have any tips for doing the cambelt on the X16XE. Im doing it as the haynes says round the crank pulley tensioner water pump then up the other side round the cam pulleys just the trouble is I'm getting too much slack imbetween the two cam pulleys

make sure the pullies are lined up correctly to there mark there may be a slight bit of slack 1-3mm till you relese the tensioner

Its all lined up until you go for the test turnover and the slack causes it to fall out of place

leave the tensioner off completely untill you have it around all the other pulleys...
the inlet pulley will need to be wound back slightly to get the teeth on it to go into the belt..

are you turing it at the crank shaft? the right way?(clockwise.)

So have the timing mark slightly up on the inlet cam

yeh... it may not look right when you do it... but when you rotate the engine a few times the marks should line up spot on... if they dont theres a problem...
if you look at the exahaut cam its probably slightly down... it 'falls' into that postion anyways...

the slack in between the pulleys need to be taken up before tightening the tensioner so have someone applying pressure on the inlet pulley (anti-clockwise) to take up the slack and then you tighten the tensioner.
