So, I've got a Haynes manual which I was following. Got everything off fine, including the top air vents which are a right pain.
Anyway, I pull the heater console out, all the cables still attached, yet there doesn't seem to be any kind of bulb holder.
The hole lot seem to have come out the dash. I was looking at the Haynes pictures, and they aren't really much cop. Is the bulb holder behind the black plastic, in front of the white plastic behind the console? It has just got me really puzzled. Haynes says there is no need to disconnect all the cables.
If I haven't explained it, just ask questions and I try figure out a better way to say it.

I just read Cobra148's guide on how to do it and I was definitely doing it the same. However he has a 'Note:' at the bottom which says his '98 Sport was different and I have a feeling my 2000 GLS is the same.
Did they change the back of the heater console post '97?

release the plug off the centre switch (fan speed) the top to pins go into the bulb tree. un clip the bulb tree(black bit) and change the bulb(s)
If you have the later type you need to unclip the facia from the controls (white plastic bit) and use some long nosed pliers to remove the bulbs
tis not hard just fiddly i have done a few now only a 15 min job max inc putting it back together

Ahhh thanks, I must have the later version. Comparing mine to Haynes it was nothing like it.
How do you unclip the facia from the controls? I saw loads and loads of clips but they were extremely stiff.

its a bastid to do if you have to remove the front
here is a quick explanation
"ive done it 6 times in last week to get it right
unclip all cables unclip hazzard switch unclip rear hearfan switch wiring and push the hazzard wiring plug down
you shud have the console free in your hand
the vent top bit unclips 3 at the top and 2 at the bottom
all knobs must be gently pulled off
then split the front black bit and the white rear bit
there are the bulbs
take your time
do it in well lit and do not force anything
i have broken 2 aircon centre console trying this.
but got it right in the end,
before you clip it all back together plug in heater switch and check they work or you will have to strip it again
like i did today

Ahhh ok. I might take it to a local mechanic I know. He is pretty reasonable and probably won't charge me anything to be honest, especially if it is all in bits when I get there.
I have pulled it all out no problem - now I know I have to somehow separate the front black fascia from the white plastic backing.
What age is your car?

Mine is a 2000. I think that they changed them in '98, as Cobra198's tutorial mentioned a '98 Sport being different.

Yeah, that'd be cool. But my car is a 2000 and they changed it after that.
I've had the console out and everything, just couldn't see a bulb holder like described in the Haynes manual.
u2u them to me, or post them in here

Yea i had this problem when i was sent a replacement heater matrix by a mate from a spares place he manages.
My bulbs came out from the back but the one he sent me they came out from the front so mine was easier to remove lol

I replaced the full console on mine when the bulbs went for an older one. Bulbs are easy to replace now! :-)

Well I managed to do it.
For 98 Corsa's and onwards you need to:
1. Follow the Haynes manual and Cobra147's Tutorial on here as far as removing the bulb holder, as this isn't accessible.
2. Split the top air vents from the dials - there are 3 clips on the top, 4 on the bottom iirc. Just pull it and they should come free.
3. Take off the 2 other dials (ones either side of the heated rear screen/fan speed).
4. Pull the black facia off revealing only 2 bulbs, not 3!
5. My bulbs were pretty stiff, so I pulled them out with a pair of needle nozed pliers.
6. Replace both bulbs as you can bet your bottom dollar 1 will go soon after the next.
With my spare bulb I replaced the lighter/ash tray bulb It's like having a new car.

Naaa, I don't have aircon.
I did break my fan speed/rear screen dial when pulling it off though I can adjust the fan speed, just when I pull it back to turn on the rear screen, the dial just pulls off

About a fiver from the scrappy. Then about £6 for 3 bulbs from Halfords.

No matter what you do they break and you'll need to re glue the tabs! My mates used to work at Vauxhall and every bulb they replaced they had to glue the backs of the controls before they could put them back in. Or maybe they were just rough!

I managed to find the bit of plastic which came off the white stalk that the heated screen/fan speed dial mounts on to and glue it back on - works for now, I will just keep glueing it.
