yes there undercut, but how and why ?

one locates at the bottom of the headbolt 'hole' putting less stress on the threads and the other doesnt bottom out meaning it has a gap between the underside of the stud and the block, this type puts more stress on the threads.

thats how I have always understood it anyway

my guess is the one that doesnt bottom out is the undercut one
