Im pretty dumb with insurance but I just done an insurance quote on comparethemarket.com and the cheaptest was 4.1k
Thats pretty expencive afaik.
Why?

Well it all goes on the risk, depending on you as a driver, the car in itself and where it's kept, living in birmingham is quite a high risk area so it can "contribute" but i never liked those type of websites anyway, i'd rather ring direct if i were you m8
Try quinn direct, adrian flux, Tesco are also pretty resonable

Internet quotes arent the easiest way to go about it. Phone companies up for better quotes IMO.

It's where the car is being kept is the problem. If you have family/friends where you could register the car in A - B zone then it'd drop a shit load.

try co-operative insurance mate, im in same boat as you and all those big companys are crap my cheapest was 6 grand on a 1.4 8v sri with the co-op i got a quote of 800 3rd party and 1100 fully comp on a 1.4 sport

No point trying until your of age and thinking of taking the quote up as the price will not be valid and could change phenomenally by then m8, can see where your coming from but try when the time comes.
Try companies like Adrian Flux, Quinn Direct and Tesco's are quite good for young drivers too.
But don't say "im 16 but want a quote for when im 17" as they'll likely refuse to do it, just give your fake DOB
