If it is then, no its not hard. Take a few hours.

few hours, try about 10!
got to take the head off, strip it, remove all valves
or if you have the speical tool you can do it without removing the head, as i have done before on a z20let

my father used to be a mechanic so he is allrite with cars it was a long time ago tho lol so he will be helping me and have got the rite tool to remove the springs

If it's the same as an XE you can use a pair of needle nose pliers to remove the stem seals.
And as someone has said, you may as well buy a new head rather than a whole new engine.

why are you looking for a 1.6 engine? thought you had the gsi engine?

what you need to do is strip the top end of the engine and remove the head, once the heads off you need a valve spring compressor to compress the springs to remove the collects, once there off you just left the springs uot and useding plyers pull the old stem seals out and slide the new ones in, give them a tittle tap to get them into place them rebuild it, id buy a full gasket kit and timing belt kit as well and decoke all the valves etc while your at it

when re-fitting the stem seals, you ill notice the sound goes from light to a deeper noise when on far enough, DO NOT hit hell out of them just tap them and feel/listen to them. also dont knock on too far as it can knacker the small spring and the roubber its self

gez i dont really but dylan sed i might need a full rebuid ant tha will cost a bit lol i found another gsi for 120 so ill do a few bits to it and if it dont get beta ill buy a new 1 ... by the way davieslim i have got full getket set but what does decoke mean

well since your removing the springs to do the seals you might as well slide the valves out and give them a clean, carb cleaner or just used a wire brush will do, but if you do make sure you put the valve back when it came from and dont get them mixed up

If you want to change the value guide oil seals then its fairly easy just dismantle the head and they pop off, a lot of peeps complain that after there x or c16 engines have been rebuilt that they still leak because its the guides that are fucked and need changing, and a de coke is where the head is (if done properly) put in a cleaning vat and all the carbon and old sludge is cleaned away leaving you with a perfectly clean head. Normally done ultra sonicly in cleaning agent's.... Personally i'd fix your engine because you know it. You know weather the engine is knocking or not you know if its worn out or not, almost every 16xe like the c20xe has been hammered to death and need's a proper rebuild. So changing the engine might lead you to have a right lemon..
