Hi there,
mum has just phoned saying her car won't start, and that when she tries to start it, all it does is a screeching noise. She wanted me to bring jumpleads down but it sounds like starter motor to me, any ideas?
Its a 2004 1.3 ka

it wont be starter if its a screetching noise it will just click,

It will be if the ring gear is fucked on the flywheel or if the starter solenoid isnt engaging fully.

If the starter is spinning and not engaging fully you'll be able to tell straight away.

Then its a case of whiping out the starter to examine the ring gear through the hole.

sounds like starter/ring gear to me, my polo use to screech when starting it was the bushes in the starter which meant as it retracted after starting the flywheel would hit it, but deffo ring gear or starter, has it been playing up for some time? seeing as a ring gear wont just 'go'

well taken the starter off, ring gear looks fine so looks like the motor is fubbared. got one from the scrappy but they've given me the wrong type

starter ring is too big and its on the wrong side
