Recently did an engine swap on my 1.2 8v, it now has a 1.4 8v sri engine (c14se) but it doesnt seem right, for one its running hot (97-100ish) and it feels a lot less powerful than when i tested it out in the doner car, also it seems very loud under the bonnet when i put my foot down? exhaust isnt blowing it sounds like intake noise but not sure, it still has the 1.2 fuel pump in for now til i get hold of an MPI one, would the fuel pump cause all these problems? i dont really want to drive it around til i get the pump if its going to cause damage to the engine, can anybody help? cheers

the pump should be able to cope tbf, with the temp seems like you have an air lock but cant tell without looking
power can be anything a sensor faulty have you got any fault codes

Ok just swapped pumps, seems to run slightly better but still getting hot quickly (within 5 minutes) both pipes get hot and fan kicks in when it gets too hot, water pump and timing belt are new, also taken the temp sensor out of the inlet to get any air out of there, if i drain the system and refill it slowly will that be any help, or half fill it then do the rest while its running? Cheers for the help guys its doing my head in
Oh yes, also theres no exhaust fumes in the coolant

the engine itself seems fine, fill it with coolant and just pump the pipe going to the radiator like a mad man with the water cap off and see if you get air bubbles in the pot

All the MPI engines use the same pump. If your 1.2 8V was a MPI it will have had the same pump as the doner engine.

Ok been messing with it today, checked the timing but that was fine, changed the radiator to the one that came with the engine and its still the same, what else can i try? What would cause the engine to get so hot so fast?

Coilpack mate
My dad reckons the noise is from the drilled airbox and i think he might be right, just this heat that bothers me now

well if the timeing is correct.
the water pump and thermostat are working
the fan switch is working.
the only other thing that causes it to heat fast is a skimmed head. or over skimmed head.

If the water pump and thermostat werent working the rad wouldnt get hot would it? Also if the fan switch was faulty the fan wouldnt come on would it? Engine seemed to run fine in the doner car so im sure its something ive done/not done thats caused it

Yes heating up fast, seem to have cured it now me and my dad had it running for a while i was under the bonnet while he was in the car, he put heaters on hot and i opened the coolant top and a load of air came up so hopefully its cured, was running at 92-93 after about 10 mins so happy with that, hope its not done any damage running it hot

Corsas run warm at times but where you had the heaters going sounds like you bled it properly that time..

lol sorted this last year guys, and yes it was induction noise from the drilled airbox, bit of tape over some of the holes sorted that out though
