I was on the phone to my insurer this morning to declare my alloys and suspension, the women on the phone said it was fine it wont affect my premium but the mods wont be covered by insurance. So.if it got stolen or i had an accident they would be replaced by standard parts.
Is this right?

If the premium doesn't increase i can see their point as you've not been charged for the mods.
But if the premium increased, due to the mods. Then i'd expect them to cover the mods.

get them to confirm the mods in a letter and keep it with your policy.

yeah sounds right to me,
Basically, if you crash or get hit and they no nothing about your wheels ect then they can deem your insurance invalid and refuse to pay out.
whereas if they have been declared then your covered in the event of an accident, although if your wheels etc are damaged they will only replace with standard O.E spec.
Most insurance companies work this way, if you want your modifications covered in the event of an accident you will have to pay for the privilage via a specialised insurer.
I use Adrian Flux...

If they are aware of the mods, and are insuring your car with those mods, then its all legit, its up to them if and how much extra they charge you, and its up to them if they want to include them in any claims.
It's legit, just not very common.

This is what most insurance companies do. You can list your mods, so in the event of a crash, you are covered and insurance is vailid etc. However if your mods are damaged, they will replace for standard parts. Would still get a letter or email to confim though.
