This is doing my head in now, just want to declare my xe DIY xe conversion. How can I get proof of the conversion if I've done it myself,I've asked all the garages I thought would help me out with a bit of headed paper, and typically there not interested... I need to get this done ASAP as I've really got my eyes set on taking it to pvs! P.s the car is not ready for mot yet do can't get it done with an mot!

First of all, well done for not being a cheap ass pikey and declaring it properly

Secondly, have DVLA asked you for proof? They don't always ask.

I was asked for my 1.6 comversion, but when I did the 2.0 they didnt say a word.

Enter new details into v5 yourself then:
Ask the garage to confirm in writing these are like for like between car and v5

Thats not how it works though.

Most garages of course will be reluctant to just "sign abit of paper" as if something like engine falls out, they will be liable.

They won't be liable as they aren't saying the engine is held in to a specific standard they are saying it has the correct CC and engine number.

easiest way to do it is right a letter youself saying the conversions been done bigger brakes etc etc make up a garage name and then sign it thats what i did with a previos corsa and my current astra and logbooks came back changed no problem

Daryl, they need more info than that though.

I had my letter declined 3 times before they accepted it due to missing information. I was exaggerating with engine falling out of course

That's mental!

Dan, take it to the local DVLA office and see what they say. That's where I did mine and they were ok with the letter I handed them

I phoned dvla up and asked what I'd need, admittedly I did say a garage had done the conversion and just how to go about declaring it,thought they'd have something to say if I said of done it! Anyway they said fill the details in on logbook and get the garage to write a letter to confirm the conversion was done to a roadworthy standard. Someone else emailed me a copy of there's they made up to send to dvla and it basically had (headed bit of paper) at top was original car details i.e. reg, engine size, make model, fuel type, then the details again but with new engine number etc,and then a paragraph to say the conversion was done by a qualified engineer and had upgraded brakes and suspension to cope with new engine wieght etc. Anyway,I've found someone now that will mot it next week and do a check of the conversion and confirm it on paper, says he's done it loads of times. That would be acceptable wouldn't it? I can't afford for the forms to get sent back as I won't be able to tax it in time for pvs. Sorry for the long reply!

I googled CC for a standard XE which was 1998cc, yours is probably 2000cc anyway after the work you've had done! I don't think they are too fussy anyway between 200cc in a car
