Its a single V belt pulley.

Iv phoned Autovaux and ordered a new alternator today and the correct one for my engine should be 65A not 55A so the alternator i have maybe from a 2.0 8v or possibly the 1.8 GTE engine.

Was £69.30 + £7.50 postage

Not sure if it will be a GM one but it won't be a poor aftermarket one knowing Autovaux.

Second hand ones seem to go from £10-30 and then you don't know if its a good one or how long it will last and there a twat to change when the engine is in the car so don't fancy having to keep changing them if they don't last.

It will be here tomorrow so will let you know what brand it is.

Phoned Autovaux back up today to query it and these are reconditioned units, they got intouch with the manufacturer and called me back to say it is definetly atleast a 65-70A alternator and what somtimes happens is the casings get mixed up during the recon process but the internal parts that make the alternator up is correct for the engine. So pleased about that, atleast if it does still end up catching the belt cover there is enough thread on the end so i could space it out using a washer from behind.

Also REMY seems to be quite a good brand from what i was told when i was asking about the steering racks a few weeks back as they do make alot of components.
