Hi all!
As you might remember from my other thread i've recently just moved into my first flat.
Got everything set up and now sorting out the TV Licence.
Am i reading it wrong or am i right in saying that i'll be charged £145.50 (£29.10 a month) for 5 months TV Licence to then have to re-new at the begining of the year again?
Just seems abit of a rip off paying for a years licence when only get 5 months worth.

no its annual from when you start; the license lasts 12months, so you renew thsi time next year

I got my first one last August and just had the renewal through now so I assume I paid for the year.

Something like this happened to me mate. To be honest, i had too much going on in life to find out exactly what was going on, so i just paid it. You're right though, it was a fucking rip off...and i felt like i'd been bummed.

When you don't need it any more they refund you what they owe?

You have to pay for a year licence within the first six months, why I dont know, its a fewkin joke if you ask me. Seems like you'll always be 6 months in advance on it and they have your money. If you dont like the fact, pay your first 6 months via direct debit, then just cancel it!
My payments start at around 24quid a month, then after 6 months its like 12 quid.

same has happened to me.
£29.10 until december then £12 something from january.
god knows why.
i just paid it, far too many things to sort out.

i just pay 36 pounds per quater, makes life easier none of the 6 months in front and have been that way since day 1

We first paid £20 odd for so many months, and now we only pay £12.50 I think
Kat rang up and said you pay so many in advanced or something dunno how true that is

Whatever you do dont think you will get away with it, I knew plenty of people at uni who got done with £1000 fines for no license, ruined their first year

Thanks for clearing it up. Thought i was doing it all wrong but looks as though there just intrest reaping badgers!

They are badgers in fairness. When I first moved in they wouldn't stop sending bloody letters, even a threat "we're coming to your area" when I did finally buy a license so I could hook up the tv, there was a letter came through the same day as my license saying " our records show you don't have a license" gtf

It's true, you pay 6 months in advance, then it's as you say £12 - £13 a month, not totally sure of the amount as it goes out monthly.
