I thought id add to the ever growing help with my car threads. Anyway my car has started tapping but only after a good run on the motorway when the engines warm. Its a 1.4 8v and done 66k had a fairly recent oil change.
Anyone car to shed any light on this. Thanks in advance.

Did you put the right grade oil in? Too thin and the oil pump won't be able to get it to pressure and will starve the engine.
I would rather lose by a mile because i built my own car, than win by an inch because someone else built it for me.

Worn lifter or tappet, pull the rocker cover off and check the cam area for wear.
You could try sticking a little bit thicker oil in to see if it quietens down.

I'd go for thicker oil as a first fix.
High miler stuff quietened down my C16XE, similar symptoms.
Could also be that the car itself it running hot, are there any other signs?

Ok thanks, will give it a look tomorow afternoon. Cars not running hot as such its within normal temperatures. I mean when i come off the motorway it will be tappy then but it doesnt overheat.
It doesnt get hot enough for the fan to kick in most of the time. Fan kicks in about 100 which is normal for these engines as far as im aware.
